The funniest and stupidest tweets of Australian politics

TWITTER is a perfect way for the folks who lead the country to interact with us, but sometimes they don’t exactly use it properly. Here are the best bits.

Kevin 07 isn’t quite as smooth as 007 it seems.

TWITTER has become one of the easiest ways in which we can interact with the folks who lead our country, and for them to talk to us.

With this power comes great responsibility. Like not accidentally tweeting something publicly that was meant for a private message, or perhaps not being Clive Palmer and comparing jumping on a trampoline to twerking.

So, to mark Twitter’s eighth birthday (March 21), here’s a quick list that we put together with Business Spectator of the most interesting cases of political use of Twitter we detected.

1. Barry O’Farrell’s not-so-off-the-record tweet…

That awkward moment when you realise you sent a tweet instead of a private direct message. This post has now been deleted.

2. When Tony Burke’s tendency to tweet every little thing turned into a hashtag

#TweetlikeTonyBurke is still a thing.
#TweetlikeTonyBurke is still a thing.

This led to tweets like this

Going to have a coffee with @Tony_Burke #tweetlikeTonyBurke

Plus the man himself even enjoyed the joke

and for those who've been asking: in the car on my way to #qanda #tweetliketonyburke

Even Malcolm Turnbull had a dig

Without wanting to #tweetliketonyburke am off to US Studies Centre at Syd Uni to talk about US role in the world and what it means for Oz.

3. Speaking of Malcolm Turnbull, that thing he said that sounded insensitive last week

@SaysJuliaKeady just curious:- if connectivity was so vital to you why did you buy a house where there was no broadband available?

This also led to its own hashtag

If stopping the boats is so important to you, why do you live in a country accessible by boat? #turnbulllogic

If you were so worried about climate change, why did you choose to live on a planet with climate? #turnbulllogic

Malcolm said that if I hate the Carbon Tax so much, I should've become PM of a country that doesn't have one. #turnbulllogic

4. Ruddy’s shaving cut

Note to self: when rushing out the door in the morning, make sure you take care with the razor. It is… http://t.co/eqkAE0C2RK

We could argue that Kevin Rudd’s cut became
We could argue that Kevin Rudd’s cut became

an election issue...

Poor Ruddy, just when he thought he was being cool and hip by posting on Instagram and Twitter, the internet took him to shreds over this little blunder.

5. Just Clive Palmer’s Twitter account in general

This is more fun than #twerking. Trampolining with Quentin von Stieglitz at Launceston Indoor Sports Arena #tasvotes pic.twitter.com/03BaLGcpKE

Advice to @Wyatt_Roy_MP aka Wyatt Earp - calm down son, you have 3 years to go until you face a @PalmerUtdParty candidate and defeat #auspol

For a bonus round, UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s very serious picture that turned into an internet hit

I've been speaking to @BarackObama about the situation in Ukraine. We are united in condemnation of Russia's actions. pic.twitter.com/7Rk2k8iOIK

Comedian Rob Delaney thought he would dial in.

.@David_Cameron @BarackObama Hi guys, I'm on the line now too. Get me up to speed. pic.twitter.com/xhmJG5KpxT

And so did Sir Patrick Stewart...

.@robdelaney @David_Cameron @BarackObama I'm now patched in as well. Sorry for the delay. pic.twitter.com/elLQcKcV3w

As did Putin... kinda....

@SirPatStew @MacMoreno @robdelaney @David_Cameron @BarackObama CAMERON, YOU FOOL -- THIS ISN'T THE WHITE HOUSE! pic.twitter.com/BOpu8jJ3V6

And let’s not forget Dog.

Yes, Dave, this is Dog pic.twitter.com/pbElW856BO
