A man has been charged with two counts of murder in the US after his mother and uncle were found dead in a grisly attack that a female colleague of his mother says she witnessed via a Zoom call.

The woman was on a Zoom call with her female colleague, reportedly the accused murderer’s mother, when she was forced to call the police about a possible kidnapping at her colleague’s home in Altadena, California at around 2.45pm on Monday.

According to local authorities, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrived at the scene and found a man dead in the driveway, having been stabbed several times.

When they entered the house they found the woman deceased as well.

They’ve been identified as Carol Brown, 67, and her older brother Kenneth Preston, 69.

The deputies soon figured out a Lexus belonging to one of the victims was missing from the premises.

A 32-year-old man named Robert Cotton then showed up, telling the deputies he lived at the house with the two victims.

The Pasadena Star News reported the deceased were his mother and uncle, and that Mr Cotton had allegedly hidden the car in the neighbourhood before returning to the home.

He was detained and has been charged with two counts of murder.

Mr Cotton’s bail has been set at $US2 million ($A2.6 million) and he’s in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility until he faces Pasadena Superior Court on Thursday.
