Instagran: Your selfies have got nothing on Janet Knee's
THE first time Janet Knee took a selfie it was an accident. Now the 78-year-old retirement village resident is a seasoned pro. Her account is the best.
THE first time Janet Knee took a selfie it was an accident.
She was trying to take a photograph of her feet and didn't realise the camera on her iPad was flipped to be facing her.
Now Janet, 78, is a seasoned pro.
The resident of Keilor Retirement Village in Victoria is proof that you don't need to be young to be amazing on Instagram - in fact @janetknee knows her way around a hashtag better than many people in their teens and 20s.
Janet was on holidays just before Christmas when she got a new iPad. Her granddaughters Tamsin, 23, and Sarah, 25, set up an Instagram account for her and that was it.
"I slightly got hooked on it," Janet said.
"I've found it very interesting. I really wanted to keep up as much as I could with modern technology. It sort of brings me closer to my grandchildren. They have to talk me around it occasionally, sometimes I don't remember what I'm doing or I press the wrong button."
Janet's favourite hashtags include #dog, #beach and #seniors.
"Well all I know about hashtags is that it goes onto - say I've done something from the Great Ocean Road my photos go with the Ocean Road. Or my favourite dog goes with dog ones and that's about all I understand."
Janet only follows 34 people, among them TV personality Catriona Rowntree.
"I'm just interested in Catriona Rowntree, she's an attractive lady and she puts some very nice photos on there."
Thanks to her grandchildren she knows what a "selfie" is, but there was no equivalent when she was their age.
"When I was young photography was expensive and not too many people did it," Janet said.
Her husband of 58 years Don, 82, features regularly in her posts.
"I know he's telling everyone I'm obsessed by the iPad but I'm not really," Janet said.
"I try and add to my Instagram on a daily basis however sometimes my croquet game takes preference over iPad use."
