MANY companies have different methods for building staff morale and camaraderie, but Netflix has to take the cake.

The streaming service recently held a Netflix Hack Day as a way for its product development to experiment with collaborative ideas. With 70 hacks coming from over 150 engineers, the quality of work was extraordinary.

An abrasive alert system that actively encourages users to continue watching Netflix when their attention starts to stray was a popular hack. As was the implementation of a dual PIN access system used to ensure couples can’t watch shows without each other.

However, the hack that stole the show came from three engineers who created a version of the Netflix app that runs on the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

Guy Cirino, Alex Wolfe, and Carenina Motion managed to include a number Netflix’s key features on the NES.

The team demonstrated the ability to scroll through content, load synopses and images, and playback media.

To validate their point, they opened an episode of House of Cards, playing it in 8 bit pixelated goodness.
