4chan user reportedly live-streams suicide attempt for others to watch

A YOUNG man has shocked the world after he apparently tried to kill himself by setting his room on fire, broadcasting the incident online for others to see.

He identified himself only as 'Stephen' but is thought to be a Canadian student, the Daily Mail reports.

He announced on the anonymous 4chan online messageboard.that he intended to commit suicide and broadcast the event for others to see.

Disturbingly, 200 users signed up to watch the suicide attempt and watched as 'Stephen' took pills and drank vodka.

He then used a toaster to light a fire in his room and hid under his bed, the Daily Mail says.

The disturbing video then shows firefighters pulling Stephen from his room.

While the incident could be an elaborate hoax, reports of the event have flooded the internet.

An anonymous user posted their own account, saying saying fire crews arrived on scene 20 minutes after 'Stephen' lit the fire and he is now injured in hospital.
