Aussies reveal what they’d fork out to guarantee better internet

INTERNET satisfaction — or dissatisfaction — is nothing new for Aussies, who’ve indicated they’d pay even more than they already do if someone could just: Sort. It. Out.

SICK of your crappy internet service? Dream of a world in which FaceTime doesn’t freeze and Netflix plays unfettered? So do more than half of Australians.

And they’d be prepared to fork out even more money than they already do to sort it.

That’s according to a survey showing internet satisfaction is still a major issue for many Australians.

The survey of 2085 respondents by comparison website finder.com.au revealed that Australians pay an average $65 a month for their internet plan.

But 60 per cent of them said they weren’t entirely satisfied with their internet connection.

And they said they’d prepared an extra $19 a month, or $228 a year, if it guaranteed a better connection, with no dropouts and no buffering.

It comes as an ACCC report revealed broadband speeds are “better than expected”.

Finder’s survey revealed 14 per cent of respondents said the onus is on their telco to provide them with an improved service. But 26 per cent said the NBN Co was the one who should be offering improvements.

Of NBN-specific users, 36 per cent said it was up to NBN to fix the problems, with just one in ten saying it should be the providers responsibility.

Fact is, consumers shouldn’t have to worry about whether an issue is the fault of NBN or their provider — “they should get the service they’ve paid for”, said Angus Kidman, editor-in-chief and tech expert at finder.com.au.

“Aussies are prepared to fork out for a guaranteed stable connection, but to make that happen we need more reliable information on how well individual providers work,” he said.

“We’re in a state of transition from the old copper network to the NBN and that’s going to lead to increased interruptions to everyone’s internet service.”

“NBN is supposed to offer a more reliable and faster connection so it’s interesting to see that those Aussies that should have the best internet are those that would pay the most to fix it.”
