Perth woman offers strangers cash to cop her demerit points

A Perth woman on the verge of losing her licence has offered strangers cash to cop her demerit points. But she’s not technically breaking the law.

Aussie road rules you’ve probably never heard of

A Perth woman has made a brazen bid to rid herself of three demerit points on social media — offering strangers cash to cop the punishment.

The seller, going by the name of Jaymee Coady, posted the offer on Facebook’s Marketplace on Monday.

“$300 cash in hand. $100 a demerit point,” she wrote.

“Only have 1 point left, need someone to take 3 points for me.”

She went on to explain that she was making the offer because she was on the verge of losing her licence.

It is unclear if anyone was keen to take her up on the offer, and the advert has since been taken down.

WA Police told Seven News the post itself was not illegal and would only be a criminal offence if they were actively nominating someone else for the infringement.

Any person caught could face hefty fines and possible jail time of up to five years.

Adelaide basketballer Mitch Creek made headlines over a similar incident in 2017 when he posted to Facebook asking for a mate to take his demerit points.
