Woman in wheelchair dies after van hits tree in horror crash

The woman died after a van crashed into a tree, with the driver and front passenger also taken to hospital for treatment.

A woman in a wheelchair has died following a major crash south of Adelaide.

Emergency services were called after a Toyota van, used to transport clients with disabilities, crashed into a tree at the intersection of Ocean Road and Port Elliot Road in Hayborough just before 4.30pm on Sunday.

A 59-year-old Davoren Park woman who was a wheelchair passenger in the van died.

The woman had been taken to Flinders Medical Centre, according to the Adelaide Advertiser.

The 20-year-old Northfield driver and a 30-year-old Croydon Park sitting in the front seat were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The southern end of Ocean Road was closed as Major Crash Investigators examined the circumstances of the crash.

The death marks the 60th death on South Australian roads this year.
