Western Australia police officer slams man after car chase ends in Spearwood
A two-hour-long police chase has ended in a WWE-style display after the man on the run was decked by police.
A Perth police officer has been filmed slamming a man – WWE style – after a wild two-hour chase south of the city.
The man in his 40s was filmed during numerous stages of the Monday chase, which started at about 10.30am in the Coogee area, just south of Fremantle.
Footage showed the man driving at a slow speed and waving to passers-by.
Towards the end of a two-hour-long chase involving at least six police units, the Toyota Corolla driven by the man is shown with two decimated front tyres. Its back tyres also appear to be flat.
Further footage shows a brief standoff with police where the chase came to an end in Spearwood.
The standoff is short-lived as the man is shown making a run for it before one officer tackles him to the ground.
The officer is shown lifting the man off the ground before slamming him on his back.
A police dog was also sent to the scene, although police were able to subdue the man without it.
The man was taken into custody.
Commenters were keen to reflect on the officer’s handy work on social media, where clips of the chase have been shared widely.
“Keep up the good job Officers … I love that tackle … 10/10,” one wrote.
“What a choke slam” another added.
“How’s the tackle on it,” another replied.
“Body slam was epic,” said another.
WA Police told news.com.au the 45-year-old from Spearwood was charged with several offences, including reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, driver of a vehicle failing to comply with a direction to stop and possessing a prohibited drug.
