Two teens charged over high-speed police chase and Polair pursuit
Dramatic footage taken from a Polair helicopter captures the high-speed pursuit of two teens allegedly driving a stolen BMW.
Two teen boys have been charged following a high-speed police pursuit through Sydney’s northwest.
Just after 8am on Tuesday, police received a report that a white BMW had been stolen from a home in Rouse Hill overnight.
Police spotted the vehicle in Schofields and attempted to stop it on Boundary Rd, Vineyard.
However, when the car failed to stop police began the pursuit.
Dramatic footage from a vehicle dashcam shows the white BMW weaving dangerously between cars at speed on a single-lane stretch of road.
A sign on the roadside indicates the speed limit is 60km/h as the car narrowly avoids colliding with a truck while overtaking.
Given safety concerns, police terminated the on-road pursuit in Pitt Town.
A Polair helicopter was sent up to continue the pursuit as the car sped through northwest Sydney.
Around 9.20am, the car was abandoned at a carpark on Railway Terrace in Schofields.
A perimeter was established and police units – including the dog squad, riot squad and local police officers – began a search of the surrounding area.
Polair captures the moment the car slipped into the underground parking lot of a nearby shopping centre.
A short time later, two teenage boys – aged 14 and 16 – were arrested inside the shopping centre.
They were both taken to Riverstone Police Station.
The white BMW was seized by police and will undergo forensic examination.
The 16-year-old was charged with police pursuit – not stop-driving dangerously, driving conveyance taken without the consent of the owner, driving on a road without ever having a licence and dishonestly obtaining property by deception.
The 14-year-old was charged with being carried in conveyance without consent of the owner and dishonestly obtaining property by deception.
They were both refused bail and will appear in a children’s court on Wednesday.
