Tesla recalls Model Y over window issue
A recall notice has been issued for one of Australia’s best-selling cars over fears it could harm drivers.
Tesla has issued a recall notice for the Model Y, Australia’s best-selling electric car.
The EV giant says more than 7300 examples of the model built in 2025 may pose a risk to drivers.
A recall notice for the vehicle states that “due to a software issue, the driver side window’s automatic protection system may not operate as intended and result in the window closing with excessive force on any obstruction such as a body part”.

“If a body part is in the window space when the driver’s side window is closing, it can increase the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.”
It’s not the first time Tesla has been in the spotlight for posing a risk to fingers.

The brand’s Model X family SUV, which was offered in Australia for a short time, had upward-opening “falcon wing” doors with a power close function capable of crushing objects caught in their way.
Owners are unlikely to be inconvenienced by the recall, as the software issue can be fixed with an “over the air” update that sorts it out quickly and easily.

Tesla made headlines last week for using a software update to give some customers and staff early access to its Full self Driving (Supervised) assistance suite that can handle driving duties in some circumstances.
We tested the system at a preview event in Queensland and came away impressed by its ability to handle intersections, roundabouts and even judge gaps in the traffic to merge safely.
