Sydney residents fume over ‘daily’ $264 parking fine
A Sydney resident has fought back after noticing that motorists were continually being fined in the same spot due to “obscured signage”.
A Sydney resident has fought back after noticing that “obscured signage” has resulted in the issuing of $264 parking fines “daily” in her area.
Meha first alerted other residents of the Inner West suburb of Drummoyne to the issue via a Facebook group, after she observed fines being handed out in the same location repeatedly.
“Breaks my heart to see a fine everyday on this street on this particular spot on Formosa Street,” Meha wrote. “This is a No Stopping sign and easily missed.”
She told motorists to “save your $ and remember not to park here”, stating that the no-go zone is located before the shared space on Formosa Street, at the corner of Church Street.
The ‘No Stopping’ sign is just metres away from the spot and clearly indicates the area is not to be parked in.
However, many drivers miss it as it’s located behind them and there’s no sign ahead of the spot.
On her Facebook post, Meha said she noticed a red car in the spot that had not yet been issued a fine and she begged the driver to move their car quickly.
Local residents were grateful for the warning and many agreed the location of the sign is an issue.
“Yes!” one local motorist wrote. “I nearly parked there the other day but fortunately a guy driving past stopped and told me not to! So grateful!”
While another commented: “The road itself needs stripes painted to warn drivers. It’s so easily missed as is.”
The concerned resident also contacted the City of Canada Bay council regarding the issue, and a spokesperson said that while the audit revealed the ‘No Stopping’ sign is compliant with Australian standards, council will install additional signage to help locals.
“An audit by Council’s Traffic Engineers found that the No Stopping sign near 48 Formosa Street, Drummoyne, is compliant with the appropriate Australian standard,” the spokesperson told Yahoo.
“While the existing No Stopping sign is compliant with the Australian standard, Council will install an additional sign at this location to further assist motorists to be aware of the ‘No Stopping’ restriction.”
