‘Remain indoors’: Fuel tanker rollover prompts emergency declaration

Residents have been warned to “remain indoors” after a fuel tanker crashed on a Queensland highway, with police setting up an exclusion zone.

A fuel tanker rollover has prompted an emergency declaration from police in regional Queensland, with nearby residents urged to “remain indoors”.

Townsville police have declared an emergency declaration after a truck rolled over along the Flinders Highway west of Charters Towers at Pentland.

Emergency services, including paramedics, are reportedly at the scene of the fuel tank crash, according to 7NEWS.

The declaration, announced just before 9am Friday, falls under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA).

An exclusion zone spanning two kilometres is in place near the Warrigal Creek.

“Motorists and other members of the public are advised to avoid the area, and those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors until further notice,” the alert from Queensland Police states.
