P-PLATERS tend to get a bad name on the road.

Teens behind the wheel are often accused of speeding, disobeying road rules and reckless driving — not to mention being over-represented in crash statistics.

A shocking photograph of a motorist in Perth eating cereal on a freeway will probably not help their case.

A woman has been fined after a photo emerged of her eating cereal from a bowl while driving.

The picture, taken by a passenger on busy Marmion Avenue near Ocean Reef Rd, shows the P-plater holding a bowl of cereal in one hand and a spoon in the other.

She appeared to be steering with her knees while munching on her breakfast.

Police said the woman was fined $300 and accrued three demerit points for driving “without due care and attention”.

The photo was snapped by 6PR listener Matt and sent in to the radio station, according to Perth Now.

The listener said he saw the grey Hyundai weaving along and believed the driver was texting. It was only when he pulled up beside her that he saw the driver was actually engrossed in her bowl of cereal.

“If we’ve got the evidence and I think we’ve got the registration number here now, I’ll get my officers to chase that down,” WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson told 6PR.

“I expect that that person will get an infringement or a charge.

“You can’t be driving a car and eating your brekkie at the same time. That is just ridiculously dangerous.

“Whatever charge we can apportion to that driver, we will … this is serious and a matter we will follow up. It’s incomprehensible.”

Last month a 32-year-old Perth woman was fined $400 after a video of her using FaceTime while driving went viral.
