New app helps NSW residents find the city’s cheapest petrol

NSW’s cheapest and most expensive places for petrol have been revealed as a new app was unveiled that could help motorists save big at the bowser.

Sydney’s petrol prices have reached record highs in recent weeks, but a new government app could help drivers save at the bowser.

Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello is encouraging motorists to download the FuelCheck app that helps drivers find the deals for petrol across every service station in NSW.

“With higher petrol prices and more freedom to travel, now is a great time to download the app and find the best bargain,” he said.

“There is often a more than 20c gap in prices between service stations in the same suburb, which means if you fill up a 60-litre vehicle, you could save $12 by filling up at the cheaper station.

“Using it regularly could save you up to $500 a year.”

Users can save their favourite petrol stations within the app that also features a “trends” page that reveals the cheapest day of the week to fill up.

Better Regulation Minister Kevin Anderson said the government wanted to introduce the app to ensure consumers got a fair price at the bowser.

He said the a consumer watchdog was regularly checking petrol prices across the state to ensure the price advertised matches the price shown in the app.

“We are actively making sure this happens, carrying out more than 900 inspections and issuing official warnings to traders who were doing the wrong thing,” he said.

“If the price at the pump doesn’t match the price on the app, drivers can report this to NSW Fair Trading and we will make sure operators are giving a fair price on fuel.”

The suburbs with the cheapest petrol prices – on average since the beginning of the year – have also been revealed.

Villawood, in Sydney’s west, came out on top for Unleaded 91 with $1.25, while White Cliffs in the state’s far west had the most expensive average price at $1.70.

E10 was the cheapest in Casula at $1.22 and the most expensive in Edgecliff at $1.63.
