Two people are dead after a horror collision in Victoria on Tuesday.

A man has been arrested after a collision killed two people in regional Victoria on Tuesday.

Victoria Police have confirmed a man and a woman have died after a car and a truck collided on the Wimmera Highway in Murtoa, more than 300 kms north west of Melbourne shortly before 11am.

“Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are en route to the scene to determine the cause of the collision,” police said on Tuesday.

It is understood the two deceased had been travelling in the car.

A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria confirmed they were called to an incident in Murtoa at about 10:50am and assisted three people at the scene.

The spokesperson said one person was taken to Horsham Public Hospital l in a stable condition.

Police said the truck driver, a man, was assisting them with their inquiries.

The incident comes after an earlier fatal collision in Dalyston about 125 kms south east of Melbourne, on Tuesday morning, when a man died after a car he was travelling in collided head-on with a garbage truck on the Bass Hwy at about 5:45.
