Mercedes-AMG grows GT line-up with new entry model and track weapon

The latest AMG model comes with staggering performance thanks to F1-derived technology.

Mercedes-Benz has just unleashed two AMG GT coupé variants to the Australian market.

Joining the line-up are the Mercedes-AMG GT 43, a lighter, rear-wheel-drive option featuring Formula 1-inspired technology, and the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+, a refined version of the already impressive V8 flagship.

The GT 43 is the new entry point into the AMG GT family, priced from $264,960 drive-away. It is packed with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 310kW and 500Nm, allowing a 0–100km/h sprint time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 280km/h.

A key innovation is its electric exhaust gas turbocharger that is lifted straight from Mercedes-AMG’s Formula 1 program. The system pre-spools the turbo electronically, slashing lag and delivering instant throttle response, while a 48-volt mild hybrid system adds a brief 10kW boost to support coasting and energy recuperation.

Unlike the V8-powered GT 63, the 43 is rear-wheel drive only and uses AMG’s multi-clutch eight-speed automatic, delivering a more purist, rear-driven feel.

Standard equipment on the 43 includes adaptive suspension, multiple drive modes, Burmester audio, adaptive LED headlights, and a suite of driver assistance systems.

The interior adopts a 2+2 configuration with foldable rear seats, which Mercedes claims enhances practicality, as it allows a luggage capacity of up to 675 litres.

Australian models also get the AMG Dynamic Plus Package as standard, bringing dynamic engine mounts, an electronic rear diff lock, and yellow-painted brake caliper. Buyers can add the limited AMG Prime Package ($3,900), which brings ventilated multicontour front seats and a dashcam.

On the other end of the range sits the new $442,411 drive-away AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+.

This model is powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 found in the regular AMG GT 63, but ramps outputs up to 450kW and 850Nm, a slight boost of 20kW and 50Nm compared to its sibling.

Despite the higher outputs, its 0–100km/h time remains unchanged at 3.2 seconds, but the PRO does shave half a second off the sprint to 200km/h, covering it in just 10.9 seconds, before pushing on to a 317km/h top speed.

The 63 PRO gains extensive cooling upgrades, carbon-fibre aero tweaks, and a fixed rear wing that boosts stability at speed. Active Ride Control suspension with active roll stabilisation, rear-axle steering, and variable all-wheel drive sharpen its performance on the track.

Inside, it comes with AMG Performance seats, carbon fibre trim, and a Burmester surround system that has an $8,900 high-end upgrade option available. Buyers can also spec the AMG Night Package for $1,900, which provides a sleek blacked-out appearance, or the Carbon Fibre Package for $5,200, adding a more motorsport-inspired look.

Both new AMG GT variants are available to order now through Australian Mercedes-AMG retailers or online.
