‘Lunacy’: Moment driver almost causes crash with truck on Qld highway
A driver has been slammed for a “bad idea” after dashcam footage showed their dangerous manoeuvre on a Queensland highway.
Shocking new footage has been released showing a very close call between a car and truck on a Queensland highway.
Transport and Main Roads Queensland took to social media on Thursday with the dashcam footage as a warning to road users not get too close to large trucks.
“Absolute lunacy,” the post read.
“See if you can tell us what the red 4WD’s doing wrong in this clip.”
The footage shows a red car at first travelling in the middle lane, on the left of the truck.
The vehicle then veers right and manoeuvres into a tight spot on the freeway between the heavy vehicle behind and a white car in front.
It is so close to the front of the heavy truck that the back of the vehicle is not longer in the truck driver’s sight.
In its post, Transport and Main Roads Queensland said heavy vehicles needed more room in order to slow down, turn and change lanes compared with smaller vehicles.
“Pulling in front of any vehicle with this much notice would be a bad idea – but a truck going at this speed?
“Additionally, drivers travelling on a multi-lane road where the speed limit is 90km/h or more must not drive in the right-hand lane except in limited circumstances.
“Drivers who fail to follow the road rules not only jeopardise their own safety but that of other road users.”
More than 100 comments were left on the post, with many people condemning the actions of the driver in the red car.
“The question is why does this person have a licence?” one person wrote.
“Poor truck driver, that would be frustrating,” a second posted.
“Dangerous driving,” a third said.
“Never cross in front of trucks.”
