Lucas Heights crash: Man killed in fatal head-on collision in south Sydney
A man has been killed, and three others hospitalised after a fatal head-on crash on a major Sydney road.
A man has died in a head-on collision in Sydney’s south, which hospitalised three others, including a young boy.
Emergency services were called to Heathcote Rd in Lucas Heights at about 3pm on Sunday afternoon, following reports of the incident.
The 66-year-old man, who was the driver in one of the cars, died at the scene. His passenger, a 67-year-old woman was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.
Although police were unable to confirm the condition of the other driver, a 33-year-old passenger was also rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition. The vehicle was also carrying a young boy, who was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
The speed limit on the major road was reduced from 100km/h to 90km/h in April 2019, in order to reduce the risk of crashes.
A crime scene has since been established by the Sutherland Shire Police Area Command, and investigations remain ongoing.

Heathcote Rd has been closed since 3pm between New Illawarra Rd and St George Crescent. Authorities have advised drivers to use an alternative room and allow extra travel time, with investigations expected to “take some time”.
“Motorists should use an alternative route, such as New Illawarra Road, Alfords Point Road and the M5 Motorway. This route is suitable for all vehicles, including B-doubles,” police advised in a social media post.
