‘Lots of joy rides’: Hoon mechanic flogs customer’s sports car
An Aussie sports car owner has shared the moment his $130k Audi was taken on an illicit joy ride by his mechanic.
A luxury car owner from Brisbane has shared the shocking moment his mechanic took people on an illicit “joy ride” of his prized Audi S5.
The high-end vehicle, with a price tag exceeding $130,000, was entrusted to a local mechanic in Brisbane for a routine roadworthy test.
Little did the owner know that he was about to be blindsided.
Recalling the disconcerting experience, the car owner shared his dismay with Facebook account Dashcam Owners Australia, recounting: “(I) brought my Audi S5 into a small mechanic in Brisbane for a roadworthy.” During this innocuous visit, the mechanic allegedly borrowed the sports car overnight for an extended joy ride.
“He took it home for the night and did lots of joy rides with friends and family. Lots more footage. 102km in a 50 zone,” the owner exclaimed.
Captured on dashcam footage, the joy ride showcased two individuals gleefully pushing the limits of the high-performance vehicle.
Engaging in conversation as the car accelerated to dangerous speeds, one occupant marvelled at the acceleration before later critiquing its perceived “lag”.
In an extended version of the clip, the passenger is heard asking: “you’d probably go to jail for that speed wouldn’t you?”
“I dunno” responds the driver.
The drive included speeding through suburban streets, intersections, and even running red lights, as the dashcam’s speed reader recorded a maximum of 117km/h.
As the footage circulated on social media, users expressed their shock and condemnation of the alleged actions. Speculation arose regarding the authenticity of the incident, with some hoping it was an isolated occurrence.
One social media user suggested, “A Current Affair should be shown this! Would be good advertising for the mechanic.”
Calls for accountability echoed through the comments, with many urging the car owner to “name and shame” the mechanic and pursue legal action.
“He needs to report to the police. This is a charge at that speed,” emphasised one concerned commentator.
The unsettling incident, documented in a dashcam video timestamped January 2021, showed what many chalked up as a potential breach of trust between car owners and their mechanics.
