An Aussie mother has been slammed for a common mistake while driving – and it is other mums who are dishing it out.

A mum slapped with a fine for wearing her seatbelt incorrectly so she could reach onto the backseat has been roasted online.

The anonymous woman revealed on a mum’s Facebook group that she got the fine for putting her seatbelt under her arm so she could “reach back to put a dummy / bottle in” for her child.

“My eyes are still on the road,” she wrote before asking, “is this something I can contest?”.

But other mums had little sympathy, with one writing, “you were wrong, next time pull over”.

“Just pay it and move on,” another advised.

One mother said she’d had a terrifying near-miss in similar circumstances, and urged fellow parents to pay full atention to the road.

“One time I did have a very near miss, even when my eyes were on the road,” she explained. It was a horrible awakening. If I’d have collided with the truck, I would have been through a window and left my baby motherless. The dummy/bottle/toy or whatever can wait until you pull over. It’s not worth the risk.

The mum was roasted online after trying to excuse not wearing a seatbelt properly which reaching to the backseat to help her child.

“You’re being fined for doing the wrong thing, accept it, pay it, learn your lesson and next time pull over, you should always have 100% attention on the road and that includes two hands on your wheel. Bottle/dummy is no excuse,” another added.

But some saw her point, with one admitting to having copped a similar fine.
She described it as “frustrating … I swear this type of fine was designed to catch parents out for reaching into the back area of the car to the kids”.
Another defended the mum, disclosing she had an autistic child and if they had to pull over every time “I would get nowhere” doing something similar.

The law across Australian states and territories says seatbelts must be worn and secured correctly, meaning across your torso and over your arm.

Fines of between $300 and $2000 can be dished out for the offence.
