A 65-year-old man has died after being hit by two separate cars while trying to cross the street in a major city.
A 65-year-old man has died after being struck by two separate cars in Adelaide.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Wakefield St and Frome St about 9.30pm on Sunday after reports of a collision.
Police believe the man was walking across the road when he was hit by a Nissan four-wheel-drive.
The man was then struck by a second vehicle, a Mazda station wagon.
The 65-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses recalled hearing the tragic incident unfolding.
“They said that they heard the bang and that they heard a scream but they knew it wasn’t the person that was lying on the road,” Kingsley Lewis told 9News.
Police arrested the 61-year-od driver of the Nissan four-wheel-drive who was charged with cause death by careless driving.
He was bailed and is expected to appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court on June 18.
The driver of the Mazda, a 20-year-old Hillcrest man, is assisting police with their investigation – both vehicles were towed from the scene for forensic testing.
Police have released images of two cars, not believed to be involved in the collision.
“Following the initial collision between the Nissan utility and the pedestrian a dark sedan with a spoiler on the rear and a white SUV were seen in CCTV footage to pass through the collision scene in a westerly direction,’ the police statement read.
Police are urging the drivers of both vehicles or any other witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
