Furious debate over red light crash captured on dashcam

A car crash captured on a dashcam has sparked a furious debate online about which driver was at fault.
The footage, which was shared anonymously via the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook group, showed a driver’s rather perplexing collision with a car that was “running a red light”.
The video, taken from inside a blue car, showed a driver idling at an intersection before the right-hand-turn arrow glowed green.
The driver of the blue car waits for almost seven seconds before proceeding into the intersection just as an oncoming car appears to run a red light. The two vehicles collide in a nasty head-on crash just as the video cuts.
“Collision caused by driver failed to stop at red light,” the video was captioned.
Many Facebook users, however, were quick to point out that the oncoming car was well within sight before the crash occurred and showed no signs of slowing down.
Commenters in the group slammed the driver of the blue car — despite them technically following road rules.
“Bad luck for the (dashcam owner) though — should have been quicker! Take that long to start moving at a set of lights in Sydney and there’ll be an orchestra of horns behind you and cars turning right from the left lane …”
“Collision could have been avoided if the (dashcam) driver was awake!” wrote another user, garnering almost 200 likes.
Commenters defended the driver with the dashcam, pointing out that they were not the one running a red light.
“Good idea! Let’s blame the victim,” one person wrote.
“It’s easy to look at that video and judge particularly after seeing it a few times, but you weren’t there and if you have ever been in a crash you would know it can happen very quickly. Sure they were slow to move off but they did have the green arrow,” added another.
