Sydney driver caught on wrong side of road

A Sydney driver has been slammed as an “entitled moron” after he appeared to break multiple road rules in shocking dashcam footage.

Sharing the footage on Reddit, dashcam owner Gareth called out the motorist for driving on the wrong side of the road in a busy school zone, in Jordan Springs, in western Sydney, on Monday.

The footage shows Gareth slowly turning out of a driveway before he is confronted by the driver approaching from the wrong side of the road after “illegally overtaking over double white lines”.

The driver later realises he’s blocking Gareth’s car before he is seen reversing backwards down the road, while “almost hitting” two other cars waiting in traffic during school pick-up.

“Entitled moron driver in Jordan Springs yesterday – got mad at me when I wouldn’t back up and let him continue overtaking multiple cars at once, on the wrong side of the road, over double white lines, in a school zone,” Gareth captioned the video.

He told news.com.au he was “so surprised” to see the other driver after he pulled out of the driveway.

“I wasn’t sure what to do for a moment,” he said. “Then he started reversing, so I just decided to follow him. I never beeped my horn, flashed my lights, revved my engine or anything like that. I wasn’t in a hurry so I just let him take his time.

“He almost hit two other cars in the process (a Kia Carnival and a Toyota Kluger)”.

He said the other car then pulled into a nearby Woolworths loading dock before making a rude gesture.

Others applauded the dashcam owner for the way he handled the situation on social media.

“Ah, nothing quite like a good ol’ reverse of shame,” one person commented.

“Well done DC (dashcam) owner! I would have done the same!” said another.

“Good work. Nothing like making a goose on the wrong side of the road reverse ..... badly,” said another.

“Ahhhh Karma … a dish best served, loooong slow and so so cold … nice work. I’m sure he’ll think twice before attempting that manoeuvre again,” said another.

Gareth told news.com.au he’s considered reporting the incident to police but is hoping the attention on the video “is enough for this guy to just either be more patient or find a different way through next time”.

As a parent himself, he said he’s usually queuing on the road for school pick-up and sees “people like this guy do stupid things like this every day”.

“It would be nice to see some highway patrol presence around this intersection from time to time … because this kind of thing is so common here at school pick-up time”.

In NSW, drivers must not cross double unbroken lines to overtake.

They must also drive to the left of dividing lines, whether they’re single or double, broken or continuous.
