A convoluted parking sign in Sydney has confused drivers.

In a now viral Reddit post, a resident shared a snap of a parking sign in North Sydney which had a symbol that signalled parking wasn’t allowed, but right below said “motor vehicles excepted”.

The original poster, clearly perplexed by the sign, asked the internet for help.

It quickly emerged that the sign means trailers and caravans cannot park there, however drivers complained that it wasn’t clear enough.

One driver who was able to work out the meaning of the sign asked: “So why don‘t they just write “don’t park your trailers here” instead of this f***ing cryptogram?”

Another said: “Basically, don‘t leave your trailer or boat here.”

But another motorist replied: “They could’ve worded it just as simple as that couldn’t they?”

North Sydney Council’s website confirmed that large vessels such as trailers weren’t allowed to be parked on the street.

“If a trailer is hitched to a motor vehicle, the combination is considered a motor vehicle and would therefore be exempt from the restrictions,” it added.

Many in the Reddit thread also declared their support for the parking rule.

One user said: “We need more of those signs!”

Another agreed and said: “I am so f***ing sick of driving around after work trying to find parking where I live and there are so many frigging caravans, motorhomes, boats, jetskis and trailers etc. parked permanently near where I live. I‘m honestly amazed this is allowed when parking is so scarce.”
