An angry neighbour who pointed out how busy Christmas Day is ironically seemed to have a lot of time on their hands when they left a stern note on a legally parked car.

The driver of the car posted a picture of the note in r/Melbourne on Reddit with the caption: “Parked on the street of my partner’s house Christmas morning. Received this on my windshield. Am I in the wrong here?”

The pictured note started with the capitalised words: “Do Not Park Here.”

It continued: “This is not allocated to your property and you are taking up space not allocated to you on the busy day of the year. Next time I will let the council know, a photo has been taken.”

There was no mention of the car obstructing a driveway or creating any inconvenience beyond parking on a public street.

The note clearly ground some gears as it attracted more than 1000 comments, most sympathetic to the person who posted.

“No, street parking is not reserved for anyone. This person is just entitled,” one person said.

Another person wrote: “Park there again and put a note on your windshield for them to see.”

But one commenter warned of the risk of playing games back.

“It takes a special kind of idiot to behave like this and not only does it often come coupled with having a few screws loose, but too much time on their hands,” it read.

“Same situation, ignored the letters, kept parking there, eventually they stopped leaving letters and just started keying my car every time I parked there.

“Did catch them and sort it out eventually, but it was a pain, and worse, it just escalated to other problems like bins being knocked over, harassment from their kids, and just general hostility where you want it least.”
