Debate after common carpark scene emerges online
Two drivers have unwittingly sparked a debate online after their vehicles caught the attention of a passer-by in a shopping centre carpark.
Debate has erupted after two vehicles were pictured in a compromising position in the middle of a busy car park over the weekend.
An onlooker snapped the “very unusual” scene at Stockland Shellharbour Shopping Centre, south of Sydney, before uploading it to Facebook on Sunday.
Photos showed a blue Toyota HiLux parked slightly over the front of its bay, with a small Suzuki Swift pressed into its bonnet, causing a small dent.
Due to it being unclear which car arrived in its bay first, it was impossible to decipher which driver was truly in the wrong.
The photos became the centre of an enthusiastic parking debate among locals after they were shared to a community group.
“Shellharbour Square shops this afternoon had two cars next to us parked in the very unusual way in photos below,” the passer-by wrote in a post.
“A small white Suzuki Swift and a blue Toyota HiLux Ute with a Disability Parking sticker. One just hit the front bumper of other and decided to park right there.”
Despite the blue car’s damage, many respondents sided with the Swift driver.
“Unfortunately it does look like the blue has crossed the line so technically the blue will be deemed at fault from what I have experienced,” one wrote in a reply.
Others agreed the HiLux driver was in the wrong regardless, given it was their car over the line.
“HiLux is over the line,” one comment, which received several likes, read.
Another was in disbelief that whoever drove their car into the other, walked away like they weren’t aware of what they had done.
“Lol they just left it there. As if you wouldn’t notice! But blue car is over the line a bit so even if the white car is the one that hit it they may get away with not paying,” one wrote.
Someone else acknowledged the blatant “power move” of the driver that saw what happened and still left the scene.
“I love the power move of leaving it there,” they wrote.
Another said the HiLux driver was at fault regardless of when the white car arrived.
“Blue is at fault either way you look at it, as it is well over the line,” they wrote.
One driver said they had been in the position of accidentally hitting a car that had breached its parking bay, and ended up having to pay their damages despite them also being in the wrong.
