Car erupts into flames in Melbourne collision, closing all inbound lanes of Monash Freeway
A car has burst into flames following a collision, with inbound lanes of a major Melbourne freeway closed.
A man has been taken to hospital and a car has erupted into flames following a major crash, with all inbound lanes on a busy Melbourne freeway now closed.
Emergency services responded to a crash in Dandenong North about 5pm Thursday where it’s believed three cars and a motorbike collided outbound on the Monash Freeway near Stud Road.
Police were told the motorbike flipped over the concrete centre barrier and hit a fourth car.
The car had been travelling inbound and reportedly burst into flames after the collision.
A Victoria Ambulance spokesperson confirmed the motorcyclist has been transported to The Alfred Hospital after Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedics responded to the crash.
All four car drivers have escaped without injury.
The Monash Freeway is closed between Heatherton Road and EastLink following the collision.
“Exit at as early as possible and use the Princes Highway. The two right lanes of the Monash Freeway outbound are also closed. Heavy delays,” the VicTraffic alert states.
An investigation has been launched into the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police have urged any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward
