A 17-year-old learner driver has been charged after he sparked a high-speed police pursuit, including speeds of up to 170km/h.
A 17-year-old learner driver was allegedly caught driving 100km/h more than the speed limit during a high-speed police pursuit in Sydney’s west.
Police allege the teenager was driving a white Ford Falcon when he was first spotted driving in excess of the speed limit on Cowpasture Rd in Hoxton Park about 11pm on Tuesday.
The driver sparked a pursuit when he allegedly failed to pull over for police and was then caught clocking speeds of up to 170km/h in a 70km/h zone.
After being pursued for several kilometres and allegedly speeding through a red light, the driver pulled over and was arrested by police.
A police search of the vehicle found three grams of cannabis in the car’s boot.
The teen’s licence was suspended on the spot and his number plates were confiscated from the Ford for three months.
The driver was charged with a string of offences, including police pursuit, drive in a speed dangerous to the public, learner unaccompanied, not display L plates and possess prohibited drug.
He driver was bailed to appear before Liverpool Local Court at a later date
