Ssangyong has laid out its plans for a return to success following a takeover by a South Korean business giant.

The struggling car maker is now known as KG Mobility, after it was bought by South Korean steel and chemicals giant KG Group in 2022.

KG Mobility presented three new electric models at the recent Seoul Mobility Show, promising to focus on electric cars with the help of China’s BYD.

The first new model will be a battery-powered version of the Ssangyong Torres medium-sized SUV.

Set to be sold overseas as the KG Mobility Torres EVX, the machine has a BYD-sourced 73.4kWh battery pack with 500 kilometres of range, mated to 150kW of electric power.

KG Mobility plans to follow it up with an electric dual-cab ute set to be the first battery-powered pick from South Korea.

A third model shapes up as a larger four-wheel-drive similar in appearance to the Hummer EV.

That machine, known as the F100, targets camping enthusiasts with claver additions such as a water tank and air compressor.

Ssangyong’s current line-up in Australia includes the Musso dual-cab ute, Rexton seven-seat SUV and Korando mid-sized SUV.

KG Mobility says it plans to sell cars far beyond South Korea.

The manufacturer has been contacted for comment.
