Police are investigating the cause of a dramatic crash involving a Tesla at a popular Sydney shopping centre.

Dashcam footage published by the Nine Network shows a Tesla Model S colliding with two vehicles on a rooftop carpark at the DFO shopping centre in Homebush.

The grey sedan crashed into a Toyota Corolla and Toyota Prado, then clipped a third car before careening off the rooftop carpark at speed.

Tesla has recalled cars in the US and beyond to address glitches in its Autopilot driver assistance system.

Tesla owners have also attempted to blame faulty technology for driving errors.

It is not known whether a system error or driver error was the cause of the Homebush crash.

A report published in November found Tesla drivers are more likely to be involved in a fatal accident than other road users in the US.

Melbourne driver Sakshi Agrawal was sentenced to nine months’ jail in May following a hit-and-run incident involving a Tesla and pedestrian.

Agrawal initially blamed Tesla’s Autopilot for the incident, but a Victoria Police investigation found it was not activated at the time.
