Police ‘lost for words’ over drunk driver
A man ‘kept going … and going’ for 27 kilometres after crashing his car in dramatic fashion, leading to numerous charges.
Police in Melbourne’s western suburbs say they were “lost for words” when a drunk driver crashed his car, then kept driving for 27 kilometres.
A Facebook post by Police in the Hume service area said officers were mystified by the actions of a man driving a Honda Civic.
Police said the man from Roxburgh Park crashed into a truck and barrier on the Western Freeway at Derrimut, before he “kept going … and going … and going…”.
Officers found the man about 27 kilometres from his original crash site.
The front end of his Honda was extensively damaged, with the front bumper, grille and passenger door missing. While a broken headlight and shattered windscreen are repairable, catastrophic damage to the car’s roof suggests the Civic is beyond repair.
The driver reportedly returned a roadside breath test result of more than three times the legal limit.
Police charged the man with drink driving, leaving the scene of a crash and dangerous driving.
It is not clear whether the man will face further charges relating to Victoria’s coronavirus lockdown.
