Nissan introduces 10-year warranty

This automotive giant has answered critics with a move that should reassure concerned customers.

Why legacy car brands like Nissan, Jeep and VW are dying

Nissan is set to change things up with a huge new ownership promise in Australia. The brand has confirmed it is offering a new 10-year, 300,000km warranty program for all of its models, which positions the business as one of the best when it comes to the new-car warranty wars.

Nissan has had a rough trot of it recently, with insiders apparently suggesting the death knell for the brand was almost ready to sound, before an agreement was inked between Honda and Nissan under a merger.

That agreement is the subject of ongoing speculation, with Mitsubishi and Renault also implicated in the shift.

The move is clearly to reassure potential customers from Nissan Australia to offer a longer warranty, with senior execs at the brand essentially confirming that the business is aiming to put customers’ minds at ease.

New 4WD shoots for the moon

“In tough times and in a period where the new car market is full of mixed messages, Nissan

Australia is putting our customers first,” said Michael Hill, director of aftersales for Nissan Oceania.

“It’s designed to deliver peace of mind to our customers. Peace of mind that Nissan has your back. Peace of mind that Nissan is with you for the long term,” Mr Hill said.

“And this is not just about new cars. We’re sure this inclusive industry-leading ownership

program will also ensure that your Nissan will be even more attractive when it comes time to

buy your next car, as the warranty is fully transferable to the next owner aiding and

supporting your future resale value” he said.

It must be noted that this is a conditional program, with buyers required to have their vehicle serviced within Nissan’s approved network of workshops, which mightn’t be as convenient for all customers. If you don’t service with Nissan, the existing five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty will continue to be applicable.

In that way, the Nissan MORE ownership program is similar to Mitsubishi’s Diamond Advantage 10-year, 200,000km warranty program, which requires owners to service their vehicle with the brand’s network, otherwise they have a shorter standard warranty of five years/100,000km.

But Nissan isn’t just offering this to those shopping for a car today.

The brand will also retroactively offer this program to customers who have bought a car after January 1, 2021, and kept it up to scratch with its servicing within the Nissan network.

Gold for Aussie families on the move

Further to that, the package deal includes cheaper servicing, according to Nissan. The so-called Five-Year Flat Price Service program means that customers could receive discounts of up to $1145 for their vehicle maintenance, depending on the model.

Nissan says that buyers who choose the smaller Juke and Qashqai SUV or the bigger X-Trail and Pathfinder family SUVs will pay $399 per service for the first five visits.

Buyers in the market for a Patrol large 4x4, the Navara ute or Nissan Z sports car will pay $499 per service.

The fully electric Nissan Leaf is the cheapest Nissan to maintain – understandably, due to having fewer serviceable parts – at $349 per service.

In terms of outright warranty coverage, MG Motor is the best in the Australian market, with an unconditional 10-year/250,000km warranty for all models. And the best bit about that brand’s plan, is that it also covers the battery packs for hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully-electric vehicles, where most electrified models only have seven or eight years of cover.
