New Genesis GV60 luxury electric SUV revealed
Australia’s newest luxury car brand is developing a new SUV that brings some serious performance and cool hi-tech features.
Genesis is joining the electric revolution.
Hyundai’s luxury offshoot has revealed the new GV60 electric SUV and will be built on the company’s new E-GMP electric platform.
This means it will share the same underpinnings as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 electric vehicles already revealed.
These cars come with some impressive hardware including 800V electric architecture, which enables ultra fast charging up to speeds of 350kW an hour or equivalent to about 100km of range in five minutes.
The GV60 is likely to have the same electric motor and battery set-up as the Ioniq 5 and the EV6.
This means the GV60 will be available in rear- or all-wheel drive set-ups with two battery capacities and a range of up to 480km.
The all-wheel drive versions will use two motors — one on each axle — and will be fitted with the larger 72.6kWh battery pack, which makes 225kW and 605Nm and can accelerate to 100km/h from a standstill in 5.2 seconds.
Where the GV60 differs from the other two is its styling.
The Ioniq 5 has a blocky, retro cool vibe and the EV6 is sleek and svelte, but the GV60 blends a boldly styled front end with a swoopy coupe SUV body.
There are thin double decker headlights and a low placed front grille. Genesis has used a “Clamshell Hood” which is a single panel covering the bonnet and the fenders.
The GV60 looks sharper at the rear with a fixed rear wing spoiler, sling coupe roofline and larger two deck tail lights.
Inside is dominated by two large digital screens running continuously along the dash.
A “Crystal Sphere” is located in the centre console and is used to control the automatic transmission and also doubles as mood lighting.
Two screens – one in each corner – display the images from the cameras that replace the side mirrors.
The Genesis GV60 is expected to launch in Europe next year, but no word yet on an Aussie arrival.
