Audi’s head turning new electric car has arrived.

The German brand has revealed its new e-tron GT electric car, which has muscular looks, hi-tech features and impressive performance.

Available in two grades – e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT – it is expected to arrive in showrooms from September.

The new Audi RS e-tron GT is due to arrive in Australia from September.

Audi Australia says there has been quite a bit of interest and the company has already taken a number of deposits on the new e-tron GT.

Supply is expected to be limited initially but availability is expected to pick up early in the new year.

Prices start at $181,700 (before on-road costs) for the e-tron GT and $249,700 for the RS e-tron GT.

The e-tron GT is built on the same electric car platform as the Porsche Taycan, which costs about $150,000 more.

It features two powerful electric motors and a big battery.

Power comes from a pair of electric motors, one on each axle to provide all-wheel drive and brutal performance.

The motors make a combined 350kW and 630Nm in the standard GT, with up to 390kW during brief periods of overboost. The outputs of the RS are 440kW and 830Nm, with up to 475kW available during overboost.

The standard GT sprints from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.1 seconds, while the RS completes the journey in 3.3 seconds.

Both versions use a massive 93kWh battery that provides a driving range of up to 488km in the e-tron GT. Audi hasn’t revealed the range of the RS, but it would likely be less than the standard version.

It can add up to 100km of charge in just five minutes according to Audi. This is thanks to 800-volt architecture that allows ultra fast charging up to 270kW an hour.

Audi says the e-tron can go from five per cent to 80 in 22 minutes. Electric cars automatically slow the speed of charging during the final 20 per cent to stop the battery overheating.

Both models come with a 11kW AC at-home charger, which Audi says can fully charge both overnight. Buyers can also choose an optional 22kW charger to speed up the process.

Audi has put sustainability front of mind in the e-tron, producing net zero carbon emissions during production while using recycled materials such as carpet made out of old fishing nets. However, leather upholstery still features on the e-tron GT.

The RS version can sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds.

The e-tron is a handsomely styled car, with a broad muscular stance and big 20-inch wheels on the e-tron GT and 21-inch wheels on the RS.

There are numerous aerodynamic features including dimples – similar to those found on a golf ball – on the car’s flat underbody that move the air from front to rear, helping to reduce drag and thereby improve driving range.

Both models are well equipped with a long list of standard equipment.

Both have a 10.1-inch central screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is a 16-speaker Bang and Olufsen stereo and a head-up display.

A full array of active driver aids and safety tech covers all bases.

Audi has upped the ownership credentials by adding a six-year subscription to the Chargefox service and free roadside assistance and servicing for the same period.

All Audis now come with a five-year/unlimited km warranty and the battery is covered for an eight year/160,000km period.
