Hyundai issue non-Takata airbag recall for Santa Fe
THE maker has recalled the new Sante Fe over an airbag issue unrelated to the recent Takata crisis.
Hyundai has issued a recall for the Santa Fe seven-seat SUV for a potential faulty rear side curtain airbag.
The recall is not related to the Takata recall that is affecting millions of vehicles around the country. Hyundai does not use Takata airbags in any of its vehicles.
In some instances it is possible that the side rear curtain airbags may be damaged and will not deploy to its full extent.
The issue stems from a mounting bolt that may damage the airbag cushions when they are deployed.
The recall applies to 666 examples of the new Santa Fe built before August this year. The fault has subsequently been fixed in production.
Hyundai advises all affected customers to contact their local Hyundai dealership where the fault will be repaired at no cost.
A list of affected vehicles can be found here or customers can call Hyundai’s customer care centre on 1800 186 306.
