A more powerful version of the standard car’s Mercedes-AMG-sourced twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre helps the updated car reach a top speed of 310km/h, making it faster than big-dollar crossovers such as the Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Bentley Bentayga.

Bigger turbos help deliver more power than before, returning an impressive 520kW and 850Nm.

That’s 707 horsepower, hence the DBX 707 name.

All-wheel-drive traction delivers rapid acceleration.

It’s a step up from the 405kW/700Nm in the original DBX and the 450kW/850Nm found in the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S that donates its engine to the British machine.

A Mercedes-sourced nine-speed automatic transmission is part of the deal, along with oversized carbon ceramic brakes and a subtly revised cabin.

A year on the Formula 1 grid as the rapid-response medical car helped Aston refine the big wagon’s sophisticated air suspension, active roll bar system and electronic stability control to improve agility.

The DBX served in Formula 1 as a support vehicle in 2021.

Aston Martin put special emphasis on a new launch control feature that lets the DBX 707 race away from a standing start at high revs, returning a 3.3 second dash to 100km/h.

The sprint matches Porsche’s range-topping Cayenne Turbo GT, a machine that currently holds the Nurburgring lap record for high-performance SUVs.

The DBX has a similar rear light treatment to the Vantage coupe.

The new machine will serve as a reference point for the upcoming Ferrari family SUV that promises to push the class further into supercar territory.

Lamborghini boss Stephane Winkelmann has also announced that a more powerful version of its 478kW/850Nm Urus SUV is just around the corner.

Can Aston Martin hold onto its claimed speed record?.

Australian prices for the DBX 707 won’t be cheap.

The regular model costs $357,000 plus on-road costs, suggesting the halo variant won’t offer much change from $500,000 drive-away.
