2025 Mazda BT-50 ute revealed
Running changes to this popular model should help it win ground in the fight with Ford’s Ranger.
A new-look Mazda BT-50 is on the way in 2025.
Mazda has invested significant money in running changes for its dual-cab contender to keep it relevant in the face of fierce competition.
Dual-cab utes represent some of the most popular cars on sale, with rivals such as the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux regularly topping the sales charts.
And that’s before you factor in emerging hybrid options such as the BYD Shark and the GWM Cannon Alpha Ultra.
You won’t find a hybrid motor behind the restyled grille of the BT-50.
Instead, the Mazda retains a 3.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that sends 140kW and 450Nm to all four tyres through a six-speed automatic transmission.
It’s the same motor found in Isuzu’s D-Max, because they are fundamentally the same car under the skin.
But that hasn’t stopped Mazda from applying some of its magic to the work-ready ute, adding a touch of car-like sophistication to a new front end with LED lights either side of a shapely grille.
The same goes for an interior that now has an upgraded touchscreen and digital instrument cluster that feel more modern than before.
Premium models have a two-tone black and terracotta-coloured faux leather option with embroidered headrests.
Recognising that four-wheel-drive fans love to accessorise, the BT-50 is available with an impressive selection of aftermarket options that meet Australian standards and won’t harm the car’s five-year warranty. These include new bullbar and spot light options, a snorkel, alloy wheels and sports bar for the tray.
Tech upgrades include new USB-C points in the cabin, along with wireless Android Auto connectivity to match the wireless Apple CarPlay of the outgoing model.
Tweaks to its safety gear include adaptive cruise control that reads speed signs and adopts the correct speed, plus rear cross traffic braking, traffic jam assistance and upgraded auto emergency braking features.
Vinesh Bhindi, managing director of Mazda Australia, said the upgraded model “has set the tone as a versatile, ready-for-anything vehicle that suits a variety of customer needs whether it’s as a trusty work companion or an enabler for life’s passions”.
“For 2025, this impressive, inspirational new design has matured our much-loved ute to be an even more compelling choice regardless of the task in hand,” he said.
The new model goes on sale in the first quarter of 2025.
