The German brand has revealed the newest weapon in its performance car arsenal and it brings tech developed by its mighty F1 team.

Mercedes-Benz has debuted its new beefed up C43 AMG performance car.

The new C43 is based on the latest C-Class sedan, which was launched earlier this year.

Benz has ditched the six-cylinder engine from the previous version for a feisty 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that turns up the heat with 300kW and 500Nm.

The 2.0-litre turbo is matched to a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

This engine is one of the brand’s first to use an electric exhaust gas turbocharger to boost its performance.

The electric turbocharger is based on the same technology used by the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team.

It uses a small electric motor to drive the compressor, reducing turbo lag on take off.

That translates to quicker initial response and increased performance across the rev range.

The C43 also features 48-volt mild hybrid technology that drives the starter motor and can provide up to 10kW of overboost during certain situations.

The tech also helps smooth out the transition from the start-stop function and enable glide mode, which switches off the internal combustion engine while the vehicle is coasting to save fuel.

All this combines for some express performance. The C43 will reach 100km/h from a standstill in 4.6 seconds on the way to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

Fuel use of 9.1L/100km is respectable for a performance car.

It comes with a range of driving modes that change the character of the car, altering the throttle response, exhaust note and suspension stiffness in Sport, Sport+ and Comfort modes among others.

Mercedes-Benz has fitted the C43 with progressive steering that increases the level of power steering depending on speed. It ups it at lower speeds to enable easier manoeuvrability while parking and decreases it slightly at speed to make for a more controlled driving experience.

Full details will be revealed closer to the vehicle’s launched date early next year.
