2022-2025 Ford Mustang hit with safety recall

One of Australia’s favourite cars is the subject of an urgent recall over fears a manufacturing defect could cause ‘serious injury or death’.

One of Australia’s most beloved performance cars has been hit with an urgent recall notice over fears a manufacturing defect could cause ‘serious injury or death’.

Ford has recalled its current-generation Mustang to fix a defect that could cause some exterior lights to stop working.

The company says the issue is related to a quality seal that allows water to enter the Body Control Module (BCM).

“As a result, the front and rear side marker lamps, tail-lamps, and license plate lamps may not operate as intended,” Ford said in the recall notice.

“Lighting features not operating as intended may reduce the driver’s visibility.

“Additionally, other road users may be unable to identify the vehicle in dark conditions increasing the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

About 7,200 cars built between 2022 and 2025 are affected.

Ford Motor Company Australia will contact owners directly and offer free repairs through their local dealerships.

The latest action follows a string of Mustang-related recalls in recent months.

Earlier this month, Ford recalled around 400 examples of the Mustang and Mustang Mach-E due to a programming fault in the Light Emitting Diode Driver Control Module (LDM).

2025 models may experience a glitch that could cause headlights, high and low beam lamps and daytime running headlights to fail.

On a separate recall notice earlier this year, nearly 30,000 Ford vehicles, including the Mustang, Ranger, Everest, F-150, Transit, and Transit Custom, were recalled due to a software fault that could cause the reversing camera to display a blank screen.

That recall covered cars built between 2022 and 2024.
