2014-2017 Ford Mustang slapped with safety recall
Australians have been buying this car in huge numbers but now thousands of owners have been told to get a safety issue fixed.
Ford has issued a recall for almost 19,000 Mustang sports cars.
The recall affects vehicles built between 2014 and 2017 for a potentially dangerous issue.
A recall notice issued by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts says there is a potential fault with the wiring harness in the boot lid.
The manufacturing defect may cause the rear view camera to malfunction, the satellite radio reception to drop out and the boot release to stop working.
If the rear view camera does not display continuous images then it could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to pedestrians.
Ford will contact affected owners in writing and request they make an appointment with their local dealership for an inspection and repair free of charge.
Owners wanting to know more are urged to contact their local dealership or Ford’s customer relationship centre on 133 673.
The Ford Mustang is a favourite of Aussie drivers and is the best selling sports car in the country by a wide margin.
It is one of the few vehicles that remains powered by a V8 petrol engine sending power to the rear wheels, which is the same formula that made Australian-made favourites the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon so popular.
Mercedes-Benz also issued a recall for rugged G-Wagen.
Only 117 G300s built between 2013 and 2018 are affected by a manufacturing defect where the oil supply to the rear axle drive shaft bearing might not meet specification.
If the oil supply is restricted the bearing may overheat and seize, which will result in a loss of power while driving and an oil leak from the rear axle.
A loss of power while driving could result in a serious accident increasing the risk of injury or death to the driver, passengers and other road users.
Owners should contact their local dealership to organise a free inspection and repair.
