European luxury automaker offers price promotion on electric SUV amid rising competition.
The Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 SUV is an electric SUV that sits between the compact EQB and larger EQS crossovers.
VALUE
The EQE 350 offers a premium experience with dual electric motors, all wheel drive and an abundance of features, with a price tag of $144,900 plus on road costs.
However, Mercedes is currently running a promotion cutting the price by $15,700, making the current price $129,200 plus on-roads.
The current promotion makes it even more competitive and attractive for buyers.
Key statistics include about 430km of electric range and a 0-100km/h time of 6.3 seconds.
Tech includes an impressive infotainment system, wireless charging, heated seats and a panoramic roof.
COMFORT
Inside you’ll be greeted with a luxurious interior cabin, a portrait-orientated infotainment touchscreen, a freestanding digital instrument cluster, and ambient lighting throughout the vehicle.
The EQE 350 offers more room than the conventional E-class.
The Nappa leather seats are comfortable and heated but do not offer massage or ventilation.
A panoramic sunroof enhances the cabin’s light and makes it feel even more spacious.
The rear passengers are treated to generous space and USB-C outlets.
Despite the luxury, there is one minor inconvenience that comes standard with the AMG line package – the side step designed to help people into the car.
Given the SUV’s low ground clearance, the step feels unnecessary and can be a nuisance getting and out of the car.
It’s a small design flaw in an otherwise beautifully executed exterior and interior.
SAFETY
Safety is a highlight for the EQE 350.
Awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating, it comes with an extensive suite of safety features, including 10 airbags, Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Distance Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Active Blind Spot Assist.
It also features a surround-view camera system that provides a 3D view of the vehicle.
Mercedes’ pre-crash systems are another standout – they prepare the vehicle and its occupants for impact when a collision is detected.
All-wheel-drive models have impressive traction in various road conditions.
DRIVE
Despite its sporty AMG styling touches, the EQE 350 is more about a relaxing drive than high-speed action.
Powered by two electric motors, it produces 215kW and 765Nm, delivering instant acceleration and extremely smooth progress.
The EQE excels in comfort, feels refined and responsive.
Mercedes’ digital interface is excellent. Features such as the traffic camera view are brilliant and the augmented reality navigation system is extremely helpful.
ALTERNATIVES
Tesla Model Y Performance, starts at approximately $92,000 plus ORCs.
