German brand has revealed how much its version of the mechanically identical Supra sports car will cost.

The BMW Z4 is back!

BMW’s returning roadster comes with a mighty big price tag.

The German brand has revealed Australian pricing for its revitalised Z4 convertible with prices starting from $84,900 (before on-road costs) when it arrives in April.

The three-tier range kicks of with the 20i, followed by the 30i ($104,900) and the M40i ($124,900). Prices have risen by up to $5000 across all versions compared to the previous generation which was last on sale in 2016.

The 20i and 30i are powered by a four-cylinder turbo engine in different states of tune making 145kW/320Nm and 190kW/400Nm respectively.

The much advertised six-cylinder turbo (250kW/500Nm) is available only in the range-topping M40i.

This engine is shared with the recently revealed Toyota Supra which was co-developed with the Z4 and shares much of the underpinnings. The Supra is expected to be priced significantly less than the Z4.

All Z4s are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels.

The Z4 styling — penned by Australian Calvin Luk — is dominated by a large version of the brand’s kidney-shaped grille and a wide and low masculine stance. Substantial air intake vents, extensive body panel creases and large alloy-wheels round out the soft-top’s head-turning looks.

All versions come with autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, auto high-beam, semi-autonomous parking and a head-up display.

Inside the Z4 is dominated by a customisable 12.3-inch instrument display and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen. Connectivity is headlined by navigation, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and digital radio. All variants are fitted with leather upholstery with faux suede trim.

The soft-top roof can be operated at up to 50km/h in just 10 seconds.
