2023 BMW X5 and X6 M Competition revealed for Australia
An updated luxury SUV duo are on their way to Australia, and they are bringing otherworldly performance and a price tag to match.
BMW’s updated potent X5 and X6 M Competition performance SUVs are on the way.
The range-topping SUVs bring a raft of upgrades including more standard equipment, revised looks and mild hybrid power – the latter is a first for an M vehicle.
The first customer deliveries are expected from July this year.
You’ll pay for the privilege, though, as BMW has jacked up prices by $14,000 compared to the outgoing model to $241,900 (before on-road costs) for the X5 and $247,900 for the X6.
The high price gets you some serious performance.
Under the bonnet is a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine producing 460kW and 750Nm. It is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
This set-up can propel the big rigs to 100km/h from a standstill in 3.9 seconds.
The 48-volt mild hybrid tech acts as a starter generator to help lower fuel use and chips in extra grunt for small periods.
Both models come standard with adaptive suspension, which allows users to select driving modes that alter the car’s suspension firmness, exhaust note and steering response among other features. This allows the vehicle to be more comfortable around town and ferocious when required.
There are 21-inch alloy wheels up front and 22-inchers at the rear as standard. Sharper looking LED headlights and an all black grille adds to the visual appeal.
Inside you can expect a 14.9-inch central infotainment display combined with a 12.3-inch digital driver instrument display. A head-up display projects vital information such as travelling and prevailing speed limit onto the windshield.
There is supple Merino leather upholstery throughout, paired with carbon fibre trim and a leather wrapped M steering wheel with paddle shifters.
The front seats are heated, cooled and have a massage function. The back window seats are heated, too.
A premium Harman and Kardon stereo is standard.
