2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake lands in Australia
Australian buyers looking for a value-packed alternative to the German establishment have another quality option to consider.
Australian families on the hunt for a luxurious ride now have another beast to consider.
Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury offshoot, has launched its new G70 Shooting Brake.
A shooting brake is a wagon with a svelte coupe-like sloping roofline, it’s aimed at buyers wanting the practicality of an SUV with the superior driving experience of a sedan.
The G70 provides a value-packed alternative to German luxury rivals such as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Genesis Australia chief, Jun Heo, says: “G70 Shooting Brake brings new allure to the G70 model line with its classic coupe-wagon styling, superb performance and an array of safety and convenience technology.”
Available in one high-spec variant the G70 Shooting Brake is priced from $79,000 (before on-road costs). This is more expensive than the base Germans, but comes with more standard equipment.
Genesis also boosts value by including free servicing for the first five years/50,000km and a five year/unlimited km warranty.
Mercedes-Benz is the only big German luxury manufacturer to offer a five-year warranty.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 179kW and 353Nm. This is matched to an eight-speed automatic driving the rear wheels.
The Shooting Brake isn’t available with the 274kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine from the G70 sedan.
Inside the G70 is expertly appointed with Nappa leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display that is coupled with a 10.25 central infotainment screen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Buyers can also choose the Sports Pack as a no cost option that comes with items such as sports pedals and suede interior trim.
Genesis has made safety a focus with a comprehensive list of standard driver aids.
The G70 will brake automatically if it detects a potential collision with a car, cyclist or pedestrian. It will alert you if there is an object in your blind spot and will sound an alarm and auto brake if it detects a car coming front the side as you reverse.
Other items include lane keep assist, a bird’s eye view camera and safe exit warning that will let you know if a car is approaching as you open your door.
10 airbags provide further peace of mind.
