Microsoft’s Productivity Future Vision video predicts connected life

MICROSOFT’S new video of life in a Minority Report future shows Windows will disappear and everyone will be using Apple clones.

Productivity future vision

MICROSOFT has released a video of life in the future and it’s a case of out with the old Windows and in with the Minority Report creepy stuff and the Apple clones.

The Productivity Future Vision video has giant screens, foldable tablets and social network notifications popping up on random doors — which is either your idea of the best possible future ever or perhaps inspiration to log off and hide in the woods.

The video starts off with someone exploring an underwater world, with a pop-up display identifying various marine life. Film makers take note: here is a good idea for a Jaws reboot.

Then we’re in a classroom of the future, where students use what looks more like an Apple iPad than a Microsoft Surface and the desktop computers are close enough to an iMac to perhaps have the legal team at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters sharpening their pencils.

Twist and turn ... the bracelet in the Microsoft is controlled by a turn of the wrist. Ideal for people who never shake hands.

One of the most telling parts of Microsoft’s vision of the future is that even Microsoft, apparently, doesn’t imagine people will still be wanting to use Windows in the five or ten years when this digital utopia is set.

There are giant blackboards that allow interaction and wall-sized screens for super close-up video calls allowing ageing parents to show off aching body parts 24/7.

iClone ... The computers in Microsoft’s vision of the future may look familiar to people who currently don’t use Microsoft software on their computer (*cough* Apple Macs).

While it’s easy to nitpick with any video of the future, and make comparisons with Minority Report (who wants notifications on every door they open?), there is some undeniably cool tech in the video.

Forget about wearing a virtual reality headset (that’s so 2015 apparently), in the future we’ll be using foldable tablets that flip open from a magazine-sized screen to give you a full centrespread say layout.
