‘Rawdogging reality’: Zuck reveals his bizarre life
Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg has given a rare insight into his unorthodox lifestyle after appearing on comedian Theo Von’s podcast.
Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg has given us a peek into his lifestyle and spoiler alert: it’s as unusual as you’d expect.
The tech billionaire, 40, gave the insight during an appearance on comedian Theo Von’s “This Past Weekend” podcast that was published on Monday.
It all kicked off when Mr Von asked the Facebook CEO if he drank coffee.
After a simple ‘no’ response Mr Von further inquired “I mean you’ve had it?”
“I have,” Zuckerburg replied. “Sometimes on vacation I’ll drink it recreationally. It’s like every once in a while. I just hate anything that messes with … I don’t like any kind of chemicals or anything like that.”
Von said “Oh really so you like to keep everything in equilibrium.”
Zuck “My sister gives me such a hard time about this, she’s like ‘you’re just sitting there rawdogging reality.’”
‘I get up and I fight people’
Mr Von asked if there was anything the CEO did to start the morning.
Zuck said: “Yeah I get up and I fight people … I probably wake up like 7-7:30 whenever the kids start making noise around the house it’s like all right sleep is done.
“And then I look at my phone and I’m just like all these things that these people are doing like ‘you did what? Are you f**king kidding me?’ It’s like I have to go deal with this. “‘Really? God dammit’ and then it’s like, compose myself, go fight for two hours, re-center myself and it’s like now I can go deal with this stuff.”
Later in the interview Mr Zuckerberg called himself the “most awkward person” – and admitted the internet’s longtime labelling of him as a ‘robot’ has hurt his confidence.
Von asked whether he had “ever felt socially awkward.”
“No, I’m really smooth,” Mr Zuckerberg sarcastically replied.
“No, obviously, yes, I’m like the most awkward person,” Mr Zuckerberg added. “People have been calling me a ‘robot’ online for 20 years. It does wonders for my confidence.”
Mr Von replied by joking that Mr Zuckerberg looked like “a guy” who had “watched a video on how to be a ‘guy’ on YouTube or something,” drawing a laugh from the Meta CEO.
Billionaire’s chocolate mice tradition
The podcast host also inquired about Mr Zuckerberg’s first date with his wife Priscilla. The world’s third richest man said they went to a Boston chocolatory called L. A. Burdicks and now every year celebrate their anniversary with chocolate mice for which the shop is famous.
The story prompted Mr Von to respond with “oh yeah nothing like a couple of tech emperors enjoying a couple of mice you feel me. I think that’s very normal, that’s very normal to me dude”.
Zuck’s Doomsday bunker
The comedian said that people are “all awkward in different ways” and suggested there must be environments where Mr Zuckerberg may not be awkward at all.
“I haven’t found those environments yet,” Mr Zuckerberg joked.
The billionaire also surprised Mr Von when he admitted to building an underground tunnel in Hawaii, which media reports referred to as a “Doomsday bunker.”
“Zunkie got the bunky,” Von said, before listing off the things he would do as a billionaire, which ironically happened to include building an underground tunnel.

“It’s more of an underground storage situation,” Mr Zuckerberg said, hitting back against “memes” suggesting he was constructing a “bunker.”
“It’s a good place to hide a little bit of dope,” Mr Von said, as he marvelled at images of Mr Zuckerberg’s property. “That’s what I would say, dude. That’s what I would do.”
“Well, you and I differ,” Mr Zuckerberg said.
