New data shows P-platers and learners engage in risky driving

A learner driver was caught by police allegedly seven times over the standard legal drink drive limit.

The 35-year-old from Hoppers Crossing, south west of Melbourne, was noticed by police late last night. He was said to be “driving erratically and with no headlights” at about 10.15pm.

The driver was pulled over where he gave a positive preliminary breath test.

At the police station he gave an evidentiary breath test result of 0.315 which is almost seven times the legal maximum of 0.05. However, learner drivers are not permitted any alcohol in their system at all.
