Australia’s most powerful car is the Ferrari SF90 hybrid

The SF90 Stradale is Australia’s most powerful car, with world-beating performance and price tag out of reach to most motorists.

Ferrari SF90 hybrid: Australia’s most powerful car

The numbers attached to Ferrari’s new SF90 Stradale are shocking.

There’s the 574kW twin-turbo V8 mated to a 162kW hybrid set-up, giving the car a combined 736kW of power – or 1000 old-school horsepower – to make it the most powerful car on sale.

Or its performance figures – a 2.5-second dash to 100km/h that makes it the quickest car you can buy in Australia, and 340km/h top speed that ranks among the world’s fastest supercars.

But the most interesting number is its price, which starts at $846,888 plus on-road costs.

While that is an eye-watering figure that makes it Ferrari’s most expensive series production car, it is significantly less than left-hand-drive models such as the Ferrari Enzo and LaFerrari that cannot be driven on Australian roads.

Unlike those multimillion-dollar cars, and exotica such as Bugatti’s Chiron and the McLaren P1, the SF90 Stradale is produced in right-hand-drive, making it legal for local road use.

Even so, Australian examples of the SF90 are likely to attract seven-figure price tags by the time they reach driveways.

Factor in on-road costs (more than $75,000 for stamp duty in Victoria) and options such as the lightweight Assetto Fiorano track pack (yours for just $111,306), plus carbon-fibre wheels, racing seats and a digital reversing camera and the SF90 Stradale reaches new territory for the brand in more ways than one.

Named in honour of Ferrari’s SF90 hybrid Formula 1 car – the model Charles Leclerc drove to victory in the 2019 Italian Grand Prix – the car offers genuine green credentials through its ability to drive up to 25 kilometres on battery power alone.

The car is capable of operating in four different modes including a conventional hybrid setting similar to a Toyota Prius, and a special qualifying mode intended to extract the maximum possible performance from its hardware.

It promises to be Ferrari’s fastest car on road and track.

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is available for order now, with Australian examples arriving in 2020.
