The esky nobody asked for now has an iPhone app
IF YOU’VE ever wanted to use your iPhone to make your esky deliver you a beer, we’ve got some good news.
IT’S the invention that should’ve been created by an Aussie, but sadly it was the yanks who brought this hugely unnecessary but very comical invention into the world.
Introducing the Cooler Cannon, or translated into ‘Strayan: the beer-flinging esky.
The esky is equipped with a mechanism that allows it to catapult cans through a hole in the lid and (theoretically) into the hand of the lazy beer drinker a few feet away. The esky holds up to 18 cans and can throw each one a whopping 2.4m.
It’s the esky nobody asked for but every BBQ apparently needs.
But like all stupid and wholly unnecessary things, the Cooler Cannon has faced difficulty finding financial support.
It launched on crowd-funding website Kickstarter in 2013 and while a grand total of 84 party animals stumped up just over $US17,000 during the campaign, the amount fell well short of the $US275,000 goal.
But the Indiana-based creator of this beautiful monstrosity, Derek Hoy, didn’t give up. He has now developed an app to make it even easier to enjoy his struggling invention.
“Now you or anyone else at your party can join in the action and get your beverage like a rock star with the touch of your iPhone,” he says in a promotional video.
But before you rush to whip out your credit card, it certainly won’t be here for Christmas.
Despite filing a patent for the design in 2010, the company is way behind schedule. While you can preorder one on their website (although good luck getting it shipped to Australia), the Cannon Cooler is still yet to cross the finish line when it comes to mass production.
Oh, and it’s projected to cost $US195 (A$254).
